Dr. Ryoko Kausler holds a PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Utah, an MN in Population Health Nursing, and a BSN. She has also earned post-master's certificates in Nursing Education and is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Beginning her career as a psychiatric mental health nurse, Dr. Kausler transitioned to applied research coordination, gaining valuable experience in healthcare system collaborations and community health improvement initiatives.
Her research focuses on perinatal mental health, with particular emphasis on perinatal depression/anxiety, rural healthcare, substance abuse, and technology-assisted interventions. Dr. Kausler's current work explores the use of telehealth and internet-based health education to enhance treatment adherence and accessibility for perinatal substance use care, addressing comorbid psychiatric illnesses and prevention.
As a primary investigator, Dr. Kausler leads an NIH-funded study on telehealth interventions for women with perinatal depression/anxiety and substance use risk. She also contributes as a co-investigator on an NIH-funded study researching preventing perinatal depression through web-based interventions with University of Utah. Additionally, Dr. Kausler actively collaborates with local community and healthcare organizations to advance perinatal mental health initiatives and research.
