Dr. Chakkalakal is a practicing Internist in the Emory at Grady faculty practice at the Grady Memorial Hospital Adult Primary Care Center and a Core Faculty member in the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center. After finishing her clinical training in Internal Medicine/Primary Care in the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program at Emory University, Dr. Chakkalakal completed health services research training as a fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at Yale University. As a physician scientist, Dr. Chakkalakal seeks to reduce the burden of type 2 diabetes in high-risk populations through her research, teaching activities, and clinical practice. With funding from NIH, PCORI, and CDC/Tennessee Department of Health, Dr. Chakkalakal has led studies analyzing diabetes medication use in the National Patient Centered Clinical Research Network (PCORnet); testing strategies to improve type 2 diabetes prevention and management in clinics serving low-income communities and racial/ethnic minority populations; examining peripartum weight management in women with gestational diabetes; and evaluating implementation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program using the RE-AIM framework.
