Asynchronous ECHO K12 Behavioral Health in the Classroom

By participating in ECHO Idaho K12 Education series, educators can earn professional development credits. Credits are offered in partnership with the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences and will be transcribed for FREE through the University of Idaho. Whether you join our sessions live or access them asynchronously, we recognize and appreciate your commitment to education. Rural school professionals throughout Idaho face significant barriers to supporting student success. Approximately 40% of Idaho public schools are in rural areas and serve 25% of the student population.

Adolescents have the lowest rates of primary care use of any age group in the U.S. and those from disadvantaged backgrounds are least likely to have completed yearly health maintenance check-ups. School-based behavioral health providers (e.g., school nurses, counselors, social workers, and psychologists) fill a valuable healthcare workforce gap by providing health promotion and prevention services for students, staff, and community members residing in the area. These providers also fill a necessary gap in care due to accessibility (i.e., they are in a convenient location for students) and an established relationship of trust (i.e., the students already know the provider). Even children with health insurance will still often utilize school-based clinics for health-related issues.

Counselors, psychologists, social workers, and nurses working in the K-12 school setting play a critical role in the health and mental health care of students and are integral members of a multidisciplinary comprehensive school mental health team helping prevent illness and promote health at the individual and population levels.

Led by an interdisciplinary panel comprised of a school nurse, psychologist, counselor, administrator, behavior specialists, and pediatric clinicians, this series will help enhance your competencies and provide the opportunity to learn best practices in treating school-aged patients in a school-based setting.

Target Audience

The target audience is classroom educators and school pupil personnel, which includes school counselors, social workers, psychologists, nurses, and administrators. However, all clinicians and behavioral health specialists not working in schools are also welcome.

To be considered continuing education, the session(s) are required to be germane to your practice. Final acceptance of the credit for recertification resides with your state board.

 

Social Worker Credit:

For the purpose of re-licensure, the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses recognizes the University of Idaho, WWAMI Medical Education Program as a provider of continuing education. All continuing education hours must be germane to the profession of social work at the individual’s particular level of social work licensure and the presenter’s level of education must be at the licensee’s level or above (Idaho State Board of Social Work Examiners 24.14.01 Rule 351-03b). Final acceptance of the credit for recertification resides with your state board.

Participants from states outside of Idaho are welcome and encouraged to attend! Please check with your state certification and licensure boards for specific considerations regarding claiming continuing education for participation in WWAMI Medical Education CE programs.

 

Alcohol and Drug Counselors:

The Idaho Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification (IBADCC) recognizes the University of Idaho, WWAMI Medical Education Program as an approved provider of continuing education.
